How to read the numbers

Red Herring Prospectus (RHP)

The offer document a company files with SEBI before its IPO. It has the business description, audited financials, risk factors, the objects of the issue and the basis for the offer price. Every IPO card links to it.

Fresh issue and Offer for Sale (OFS)

A fresh issue creates new shares and the money goes to the company. In an Offer for Sale, existing shareholders sell their shares and the money goes to them, not to the company.

Lot size and minimum investment

You apply in lots, not single shares. The minimum investment shown is one lot at the upper end of the price band, which is the amount blocked when you bid at the cut-off price.

Price to earnings (P/E) ratio

The market value at the upper price band divided by the latest year’s profit after tax. Compare it with the median P/E of listed peers named in the RHP to see how the issue is priced.

EBITDA margin

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) as a share of revenue. It shows how much of each rupee of sales is left from operations before financing and accounting charges.

Compound annual growth rate (CAGR)

The steady yearly rate at which revenue would have grown to reach its latest level over three years. It smooths out a single strong or weak year.

IPO tracker: common questions

What is an IPO tracker?

An IPO tracker lists the initial public offerings (IPOs) that are open, upcoming or recently listed, with their subscription dates, price band, issue size and listing date. This one covers mainboard IPOs in India and adds a plain-language summary of each company’s business, financials, valuation and risks, taken from the Red Herring Prospectus (RHP) and broker notes.

How do I check IPO allotment status?

The basis of allotment is finalised within a couple of working days after the issue closes. You can check your allotment on the website of the issue’s registrar, whose name is given in the RHP, or on the BSE and NSE websites. Refunds for unallotted bids and the credit of shares follow before the listing date.

Does this tracker show grey market premium (GMP)?

No. Grey market premium is an unofficial price from unregulated trades. It can change sharply and does not show whether an IPO is fairly priced, so this tracker leaves it out and sticks to numbers from the RHP.

Where do the numbers come from?

Each IPO summary is compiled, with the help of AI, from the RHP and broker notes, and shows the date it was last updated. Confirm the figures in the RHP before you apply.
